Habitat for Humanity offers faith groups a powerful way to put their faith into action, and many faith partners support Habitat through their generous donations, prayers — and volunteers.

No experience is necessary to volunteer, and all faith groups are welcome. We will teach you everything you need to know on the build site, and there are a variety of tasks both indoors and outdoors to participate in that require all levels of skill and ability. We also can offer tailored experiences to fit your group such as a focus for students, seniors, singles or small groups.

We are God’s hands and feet, here to serve others and show them His love. The tangible experiences that Habitat provides allow you to engage those around you, live your faith and offer a unique opportunity to love your neighbor. You’ll also have the opportunity to work alongside future Habitat homeowners.

Safe, affordable housing for all

Since 2005, Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent have partnered together to help make safe, decent and affordable housing a reality for more families. As a volunteer, you’ll experience firsthand how owning a home can change a family’s life. Our partnership with Habitat is just one way we give our clients the opportunity to make the most of all they’ve been given.

The Habitat and Thrivent partnership consists of two programs:

Habitat and Thrivent Homes is the largest of the two programs and focuses on improving communities by helping build homes in partnership with families in need of affordable housing across the U.S.
Habitat and Thrivent Worldwide allows volunteers to travel to international or domestic locations for a week or more at a time to build homes while experiencing other communities and cultures.

Build or renovation project.
Collaborate with other faith communities and plan a faith build, such as an Apostles Build, Lent Build or Interfaith Build.
Involve your youth now to build a commitment to volunteering at an early age.
Prepare on-site meals for Habitat volunteer crews.
Serve on a committee, and in administrative offices.
Advocate for safe, affordable housing accessible for all. More than one in four people worldwide live in substandard housing conditions, including families in your area, and you can lend your voice to this critical issue.
Organize a fundraiser (spaghetti dinners or pancake breakfast or your church youth with a car wash!)

Host speakers who will communicate to your faith community about the need for safe, affordable housing.
Donate one time or regularly to sponsor a build project, or offer financial support.
Collect Habitat for Humanity offerings at your church or faith gathering to build all or part of a house.
Provide in-kind goods and services such as people in your church who are licensed or skilled laborers..
Pray for the lives and communities of those touched by Habitat, which often includes vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, disabled and socially marginalized. We believe very strongly in the power of prayer, and know that our work could not continue without it. You can also join our Global Prayer Partners program to receive monthly prayer updates and requests.

Global Prayer Partners

Through the Global Prayer Partner program, we invite all who pray, whatever their religion, to join others around the globe in praying daily for Habitat’s work. Specifically pray every Wednesday at noon for our local work at Habitat for Humanity Western Wayne County.

Prayer Works!

Teaching children the importance of giving to others, whether time, money or energy, is one of the most valuable character traits in a child of God. It doesn't matter if you have a lot to give or a little, it's the heart that matters! Go make a difference in someone's life! You never know how a small act of kindness can draw someone closer to God.
